Our new Cessna aircraft feature
Garmin-G1000 "Glass Cockpit” panels

Flight Instruction is provided in new Cessna airplanes with 'glass cockpit' Garmin-1000 panels

2008 Cessna-172SP Skyhawk aircraft

  • Moving Map with display of Air Traffic, Terrain Proximity, Obstacles , Airspace Restrictions and more.

  • Aural Alerts for nearby Air Traffic, reaching minimum 'decision height', etc.

  • Dual GPS; triple redundancy for flight instruments (on-screen displays, as well as "round gauge" back-up instruments)
  • "Wide Area Augmentation System" (WAAS), offers more accurate Horizontal and Vertical Navigation (VNAV). This enables pilots to fly precise GPS-guided "Glide Slope" approaches into airports such as Palo Alto Airport, Half Moon Bay Airport, San Carlos Airport, San Jose Airport, Tracy, Monterey, Byron, Oakland, San Francisco, Fresno and over 5,000 other airports in the US, to 'Decision Heights' as low as 200 ft. All without the need for ground-based navigation or landing aids of any kind.
  • On screen depiction of own aircraft location on airport diagram for better taxi guidance
  • Zoom and scroll chart with "range" joystick

Some of its many features:

  • 2 GPS units and two customizable 10 inch full-color displays can show relevant flight instruments, navigation and communications information [to assist with "single-pilot resource management" (SRM)]:

    • The left display, called the Primary Flight Display (PFD) is normally used to show the EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrument System)

    • The right display or Multifunction Display (MFD) is often used for display of Engine Data and Moving Maps, and has zoom & de-clutter features

  • Moving Map overlays allow you to see:

    • Geographic and topographical information

    • Nearby Air-Traffic Information

    • Terrain Proximity

    • Obstacles Proximity (An onboard obstacle database contains the locations of towers, tall buildings, and other vertical obstructions that could be a potential source of hazard to pilots in the US. Updates are available 7x per yr)

    • Restricted Airspace areas

    • Near Real Time Weather Information (selected models only) with:
      • Weather Radar 'Nexrad' Precipitation Maps
      • Lightning Locations
      • Freezing Levels
      • Winds Aloft
      • Prognostic Charts
      • Surface Weather Maps
      • Cloud Tops Maps
      • Severe Weather Maps,
      • Storm Tracks
      • Textual Reports ('Metars', ''Airmets & Sigmets', Area Forecasts)

Additional features include:

  • Airport Facilities Data Base
  • Ready accessible displays of nearest airports, nearest land based navigation aids, with corresponding frequencies, distances, etc.
  • Radio frequencies for departure and destination airports can be retrieved with a few simple key strokes from the onboard airport data base.
  • Flight Plans, Cross-Country Flights, Climb-outs and Descents, Departure Routes, Instrument Approaches, WAAS Approaches, Vertical Navigation, can be flown with computer guidance or with the autopilot.
  • Flight Range / Fuel Range ring display (takes into account power settings, GPS measured wind effects, desired reserves)
  • Wind Vector display shows direction and magnitude of the wind, or head-wind and tail-wind components
  • Critical 'V-speeds' display of: V-x Best angle of climb speed, V-y Best rate of climb speed, V-r Rotate for take-off speed, V-g Best rate of glide speed
  • Satellite integrity monitor to predict availability of GPS signals and WAAS accuracy at flight destinations
  • Trip Planning and information displays
  • Communications & Clearance Recorder with Playback (up to 2.5 min.)
  • Radar Transponder automatically turns on when the aircraft becomes airborne, and goes to standby upon landing
  • Engine Analyzer: “Lean Assist” / "Power Maximizer" display
  • Electronic Count-Up & Count-Down Timers for Instrument approaches
  • Visual, Voice / Audio Alerts, for traffic, low fuel, specified power settings, and desired minimum descent altitude.
  • Front Seat Airbags & Carbon Monoxide Detector

New Cessna-172SP Nav-III Aircraft are available for Initial Pilot Training, as well as for Transition Training for those who learned on earlier models.

We offer access to the exclusive Cessna Factory Authorized Training Program for Cessna G1000 aircraft, and, use of a 2008 Glass Cockpit G1000 simulator to Members at no charge.

Cessna-T182T Skylane Nav-III

  • High-Performance aircraft with Turbo-Charger (for better High Altitude performance); 235 HP, Variable / Constant Speed propeller.

  • Garmin-1000 "Glass Cockpit" Nav-III cockpit displays, which makes for easier transition from the Club's Cessna-172SP aircraft with similar displays.

  • Cruise speed: 180 MPH at 12,500 (at 88% power)

  • Weather Services

  • Minimum check out requirements: 125 Hrs Total Time, 5 Hours in Make and Model, a thorough check out; current familiarity with the newer Garmin-1000 “Glass Cockpit” systems.

Cessna G1000 PC Aircraft Simulator

  • Please contact the Club or your Instructor if you would like more information about the Cessna "Glass Cockpit" / Garmin G1000 Transition Training, Training Materials, and/or Garmin G1000 Cessna Simulators.
