Introductory Flight Lesson
Introductory Flight Lessons or ‘Test Flights’ are for motivated individuals, seeking to Learn to Fly. And, who might likely want to join the Stanford Flying Club, and pursue their Pilot License. They are not suitable for sight-seeing
tours, and normally not for more than 1 person.
No regular Membership is required to sign up for one. Guest-Membership status is included with the Introductory Lesson
Resources (like Airplanes, Instructors, Introductory Flight Lessons, Club Memberships, etc.) are limited. You will need to provide your full name, and complete contact information (name, address, phone, e-mail, etc.). This Lesson will typically include:
- An Introduction/Overview, that will take about 50 minutes. It will address the ‘Learn to Fly’ process, Pilot Certifications, Training Methods, Club information, and, Costs.
- An Introduction to the Aircraft, ‘Pre-Flight’ / Ground Instruction, that will take about 50 Minutes.
- Actual In-Aircraft time: about 1 Hour.
Total time: about 2 Hours and 50 Minutes.
Stanford Flying Club Membership / Eligibility Requirements
Memberships are intended for those seeking to learn to fly, and obtain or upgrade, their Pilot Certificate.
Membership is open to the public. Applicants must provide their full name, address and contact information.
An Introduction/Onboarding meeting of approximately 50 minutes, will typically cover:
- What is involved in Learning to Fly and getting a Pilot License
- Training Method(s) & Systems used
- Stanford Flying Club information
- Available Pilot Licenses
- Overview of possible Costs
- Club Regulations
To begin flight training, all students must provide proof of citizenship:
- US Citizens/Nationals: A valid passport or US birth certificate is required.
- Non-U.S. Citizens/Nationals: You are welcome to take an introductory flight lesson — No prior Membership or Transportation
Security Agency [TSA] security clearance will be required for non-citizens/nationals.
To continue with Flight Training , however, approval from the TSA is required. The process is straightforward, and our team is here to guide you. Stanford Flying Club Members typically receive TSA clearance within a few weeks after applying.
